Election Commission recognized National Freedom Front led by Wimal Weerawnsa as a political party

The National Freedom Front led by Wimal Weerawnsa was registered as a political Party yesterday by the Election Commissioner. Speaking at a press briefing Wimal Weerawansa said his party plans to recruit over one million members to the party. He said membership drive will be launched soon and the NFF will request the Speaker of the Parliament to give equal status for the NFF as given to other political parties, which operate in parliament. If the speaker recognized the NFF, Wimal Weerawansa will be recognized as a party leader. At present Weerawansa is in back bench and he may become a front row member if the speaker accepts the NFF as a political party in the parliament. Source of the article
